The expression, “if a little will do good, more will do better” isn’t true for every situation. But when it comes to promoting your writing, more is definitely better. So FWP is happy to introduce our fiction writers to another opportunity to extend your platform and reach readers, agents, and publishers.
I recently interviewed Lebrary.com’s founder, David Nicholls, to learn more about his service to writers. Nicholl’s Lebrary is a dedicated Internet portal totally sympathetic to aspiring writers and dedicated to providing easy access to a publishing/promotion platform.
Introducing Lebrary.com
Lebrary grew indirectly out of Nicholl’s own frustration at finding publication opportunities. Looking for sympathetic understanding from other writers, he founded the LinkedIn group, Aspiring Writers, as an opportunity to share, commiserate, and vent with other frustrated writers.
Amazingly, Aspiring Writers soon grew to over 1300 members, and turned from a place to vent to a place where writers share their work and encourage each other. Energized by this large supply of writing inventory, David formed Lebrary, as a site devoted to ebooks.
Though some might think the emphasis on aspiring writers indicates a focus on unpublished authors, Nicholls is quick to point out that aspiring means “Seeking Advancement or Recognition,” which embodies published and unpublished authors.
The Ebook Market
Convinced that eBooks are the growth area of the book market, Nicholls embraces the Internet’s ease of publication and self-promotion with social networking sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook.
Lebrary intentionally makes it easy to join and publish your ebook. Nicholls stresses that Lebrary’s ideal member will be open-minded, comfortable on the computer, and willing to self-promote.
To Join Lebrary
Joining Lebrary is easy. After filling out a brief registration form, you’re able to read a sample chapter of the ebooks available and are automatically entered as a Basic member, entitling you to upload and publish.
Lebrary offers two forms of membership, the free Basic Membership and a VIP Membership, currently costing $50 per year and including Lebrary’s promotional efforts. Members at either level retain full copyright and can upload an unlimited number of ebooks. Lebrary provides a showcase platform and “storefront” for buyers, taking a cut from each sale based on membership level.
Lebrary and FWP are Compatible
Nicholls supports our Fiction Writers’ Platform as “an honest and reputable site and one I know a lot or writers are proud to be associated with.” He agrees that the more options writers have for displaying, the more likely they will be noticed. Lebrary and FWP share many values and are complimentary.
For example, if you have a book manuscript with full electronic rights, you can publish an excerpt on FWP with a link to the full ebook on Lebrary. Lebrary does not require exclusive publishing rights.
Special Offer for FWP Writers
FWP members who purchase a Lebrary VIP membership will receive a 14 month membership at the 12 month membership price. To receive your two bonus months, first purchase the VIP option, then contact David Nicholls through the contact form on Lebrary and inform him you’re an FWP member.
