Revenue Sharing Guidelines

Ads or No Ads?

FWP contributors may elect to include up to two of their Google Adsense text/image ads within each post. The decision on whether to place ads and where to locate them is left solely to the contributor. The ads, however, must conform to FWP’s style guidelines for color consistency (below).

Though Google Adsense permits up to three text/image ads per page, FWP places one of the three allowable on each page in the left sidebar, leaving the contributor with two allowable ads. In theory, this gives the contributor a 67% share of Google Adsense revenue, with FWP’s share 33%.

FWP does not receive Google Adsense revenue for distribution to the contributor. FWP only provides a means for contributors to display their publisher-ads within their posted material.

To participate in ad-revenue sharing, configure one to two ads consistent with the FWP ad style guide below. If you are not yet a Google Adsense publisher, enroll and follow the tutorials and instructions provided. For your convenience in setting up your ad(s), print this page from the link in the footer.

How Do You Get Paid?

Any revenue accruing to a contributor is calculated by Google and provided by Google directly to the contributor. FWP is not a part of this process and cannot comment or resolve issues between the contributor and Google.

Sharing in ad revenue is not the primary purpose for publishing on FWP. The primary purpose is showcasing your work and establishing writing credibility while being easily available to readers, agents, and publishers.

Contributors should regard the opportunity to share in ad revenue as a bonus, but not a significant source of revenue initially. Ad revenue depends on many variables including the number of readers exposed to ads, the number of readers who choose to click on ads, and the revenue resulting from ad clicks.

Caution

Note that contributors must not click on their own ads, nor encourage others to click on their ads. This is click fraud and will result in the contributor being banished from FWP and the contributor’s material being removed.

Ad Style Guidelines

Ad Examples

You may use any combination of two of the following three ad sizes:

  • Google AdSense for Content text and image Medium Rectangle ad, 300 X 250
  • Google AdSense for Content text and image Banner ad, 468 X 60
  • Google AdSense for Content text and image Vertical Banner ad, 120 X 240

The three ad types approved for use within FWP posts are displayed below. First is the 300X250 Rectangle which is effective near the top of a post.

The 468X60 Banner ad shown below is effective used within the middle to lower part of a post.

Use the 120X240 Vertical Banner shown in the left sidebar at either the top or near the bottom of a post.

Color and Style Guidelines

Following are the hex numbers to enter in Google’s ad styling design menu to conform to FWP ad styling guidelines.

  • Border Color: FF7C00
  • Title Color: 37B6CE
  • Background Color:  FFFFFF
  • Text Color: 000000
  • URL Color: 04859D
  • Select Slightly Rounded Corners

When you are finished, remember to save the ad (bottom of the page save button), go to your Manage Ads screen, select Code, copy it and follow the instructions below.

Guideline for Ad Insertion

When your ad is configured at your Google Adsense account page:

  1. Copy the code for your ad (from the Manage Ads screen at Google).
  2. Login to FWP and open the edit screen for your post.
  3. Click on the HTML tab of your editing window.
  4. Locate your cursor where you want the ad and paste the ad code there.
  5. Click “Preview Changes” at the upper right of your editing screen to preview your post in a separate window.
  6. If the ad does not appear, save your changes and return in 30 minutes or so to give Google time to match up your ad with available advertisers.
  7. When satisfied with the appearance of your ad, repeat the process for your second ad.
  8. To wrap text around an ad, insert this line, substituting your ad code where indicated:
  9. <div style=”float: left; margin: 2px”>your-ad-code</div>
  10. The above line floats your ad to the left. Substitute right for left to float the ad right.

Note: When on the HTML edit screen of your post you’ll see a drop down menu that lists ads. These are FWP-owned ads. If you insert them in your post, ad revenue will go to FWP alone, for which we thank you if this is your intent.

Though you are permitted to include up to two text/image ads in your posted material, you may elect to use one or none. Your ads can be any combination of the three FWP-approved ads (shown above) as long as they meet style guidelines.
